Larry Bell
Minimalist sculptor
Larry Bell first created shaped canvases
and then turned to sculpture in the early 1960s. He was part of an avant-garde southern
California group that included Robert Irwin and Craig Kauffman, and his primary materials
were coated glass and plastics.
Many of his pieces are framed cubes with transparent glass to give the impression of
existing in space. He also did glass boxes, free standing glass panels to create
ever-changing environments.
