This series, Botanica, recaptures the beauty and elegance of the pages of century-old botanical journals and through rich and robust duotone photography, I interpret them in a new way, Under neo-classical influence of the time, the creators of those turn-of-the-century journals, redesigned and refined their work toward a simpler, more sophisticated form, and you can see that effect in my prints as well. By choosing a subtle background, using natural and studio lighting to bring out the subtle textures of individual plants and fruit, I create a memorable collection of botanical images, similar to the chronicles that first inspired me. Every photograph is a unique composition, featuring a different plant and each still life is displayed with a peaceful, zenlike serenity on watercolor paper or presented on Kodak ‘s Professional Endura Metallic Paper, it’s glossy finish and metallic appearance creates images with exceptional visual interest and depth. This paper uses a proprietary combination of film laminate layers that results in striking, three-dimensional, lasting images on an ultra-bright background. Its professional emulsion set provides extreme sharpness, brightness, and saturation.
